Cape Cod Area Info

Cape Cod is 64 miles long and its width varies from one to sixteen miles.  At Chatham the land bends and extends north for over 20 miles.  It juts out into the Atlantic farther than any other area of the U.S.  The Cape Cod Canal was completed in 1914 and Cape Cod became an island surrounded by the waters of Buzzard’s Bay to the west, Nantucket and Vineyard Sound to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Cape Cod Bay to the north.  Travelers are able to access the Cape by two bridges, the Sagamore Bridge and the Bourne Bridge.   Boston is approximately 90 miles away with easy access to Logan International Airport provided by Plymouth Brockton Bus service or Cape Air an independent regional airline with service to the Cape, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard.  Ferry service to the islands is also available from Woods Hole or Hyannis via the Steamship Authority.    Commuter parking is available at Route 132 behind Burger King , Hyannis, and by the Sagamore Bridge.  You will need a car to get around the Cape.  Public transportation is not readily available.
